2009.03.22 Rock Climbing!

Well, a bunch of us took a course on Monday night to be able to belay climbers, and then 10 youth went to MetroRock in Newburyport to do some bouldering and some top-rope climbing. Lots of fun. Check out the pix and then come with us next time!

Snow-Tubing (2/15) and 30-Hour Famine (2/27-28)

Hey everybody! Wow! Long time since I've posted anything. Well, I tried to make it worth your while. I've got photos up from the Snow Tubing we did on Valentine's Weekend and photos from the 30-Hour Famine just over a week ago.

Thanks to everyone who participated and, just so you know, we will be trying to go rock-climbing at MetroRock in Newburyport on 3/22. Watch your e-mails for updates.

God bless,
Rob
PS - and oh yeah, go to the pictures page and see all the new pictures!!

12.21.2008  - Christmas Party

So, our most recent Youth event was Sunday, the 21st: A Christmas party. We started with a nice, cut-throat game of Yankee Swap. I thought my snorting pig flashlight was the coolest gift possible. Alas, I was wrong. It is not as cool as a marshmallow gun. I was crushed.

After Yankee Swap, we did a little game called... umm... I have no idea what it was called, because we are the only people who have ever played it. The first three people to eat all the candies off a candy necklace won unspeakably-cool prizes, like a Frosty the Snowman rubber ducky. Oh yeah - you had to eat all the candies, but you couldn't use your hands at all

At any rate, I hope everyone had as good a time as I did, that everyone had a great Christmas, and that you will all have a blessed New Year. See you Sunday!

11.20.08 Word of Life SuperBowl

(as usual, there are a bunch more pictures posted to the photos section... go there and enjoy... now, read on...)

So, providing even more proof that sleep and nutrition are highly over-rated, we here at the OSLC Youth Labs have deprived ourselves of both for an intensive 17-hour assault on both bedtime and the food pyramid.

We met at OSLC at 4pm(-ish) on Friday, packed ourselves some dinners, hopped in our fresh-smelling vans, and drove to Springfield, MA. Once there, we watched a hockey game (eating hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, and other health food),  heard a speaker talk about the importance of trusting Christ with your life, participated in a games rally, and had a pizza party (some sausage, some pepperoni, topped off with Mountain Dew and Pepsi).

This all ended around 12:20am, when we hopped in our stale-smelling vans and drove to Windsor Rocks, CT, for some serious (real-ball, candlepin) bowling. More sodas and snacks were consumed. As were a great many bowling pins, crushed under the combined might of our bowling prowess.

Having seen the clock tick to about 3am, we now piled into the slightly-past-ripe-smelling vans, and drove to Somewhereorother, CT, to participate in the Extreme Open Gym. Here we devoured, not food, but mechanical bulls, gladiator jousting, sumo wrestling, big-glove boxing, basketball, soccer, dodge-ball, an obstacle course, bungee running, and, my personal favorite, laughing until your sleep-deprived head hurts at the intensity of the battles between people wearing or wielding significant amounts of foam and inflated rubber.

The clock now reading a blurry 6:00, we climbed into our if-we-weren't-so-tired-we'd-report-them-to-the-department-of-health-smelling vans and passed out for the 2 1/2 hour ride home. (Except for the drivers, of course, who had judiciously taken power naps during the course of the activities.) When all was said and done, 19 left the church and 19 returned; several made the choice to dedicate or re-dedicate their lives to living for Christ; and friendships were either begun or deepened.

Who ever said you need sleep and nutrition anyway?

10.19.08 Boston Rescue Mission

Yesterday we headed down to the Boston Rescue Mission to prepare and serve a ham dinner to what ended up being about 100 recovering addicts and homeless people.

Many thanks to all of you who went and served in this incredible opportunity to show God's love for all people! Learn more at www.brm.org
